Meet Alex
In August, our team met "Alex" following a referral from the local unemployment office. Since becoming widowed a few years prior, Alex had been facing severe housing instability, living without access to basic electricity or running water. He needed more than just a roof; he needed a fresh start.
Our team acted quickly. Alex was immediately enrolled in our initial housing program. Within just two weeks, we successfully transitioned him into the Rapid Rehousing Program, moving them off the streets and into a safe environment.
Stability has been a catalyst for Alex’s health and well-being. Since obtaining housing, he has been able to maintain consistent doctor’s appointments. Along with the doctors, he has been making significant progress on their disability application. He has been showing his appreciation for all the help he has been getting by volunteering his handy skills at Rising Up.
This November, Alex wasn’t just a client; they were a guest at our table. Seeing them enjoy our Thanksgiving Dinner, safe, healthy, and hopeful, was the highlight of our season. Alex is now preparing for an interview for a permanent, income-based apartment, showing that with a bit of support, our neighbors can truly Rise Up.
